Set up automatic payments (autopay)

Turn autopay on or off for each enrollment so your saved payment method is charged when an invoice comes due.

Autopay charges your saved payment method when your school issues an invoice, so paying isn't one more thing to remember. It's optional, and you can turn it off anytime.

What autopay does

When autopay is on, your default payment method is charged on each invoice's due date. You still get a receipt for every charge, and you can keep paying by hand whenever you'd rather.

Turning it on

Open the Autopay page. You'll see a row for each active enrollment, with your child's name, the school, the billing plan, and how often it bills. Each row has its own switch.

To turn it on, flip the switch on that row. Autopay uses your default payment method for that school.

You need a saved payment method for that school first. Without one, you can't turn autopay on: on the web the switch is greyed out with an Add a payment method first link, and in the app a prompt asks you to add one. See Manage payment methods.

If autopay won't turn on

Sometimes a school splits one enrollment's tuition between two payers (for example, separated parents who each pay a share). When tuition is split this way, autopay can't be turned on for that enrollment, and you'll see a message that the split is handled by your school. This is expected, not an error: the school collects each payer's share directly. You can still see and pay your own invoices by hand.

Turning it off

Flip the switch back off on any row. In the app it turns off right away; on the web you'll confirm with Turn off.

If a charge fails

If an autopay charge doesn't go through, Clear Day retries it automatically over the following days before it gives up. You'll hear about it if it keeps failing.

On the web, a red banner appears on that invoice telling you the charge couldn't go through after multiple tries. It gives you two ways out: Update payment method to fix the card or bank details on file, or Pay invoice to settle that one invoice by hand.

In the app, you get a notification and a home-screen banner that reads Autopay couldn't go through. Tapping it takes you straight to updating your payment method or paying by hand.

An enrollment that keeps failing shows as paused until you turn autopay back on.

More than one school

If your children attend different schools, each enrollment is its own thing. Autopay is set per enrollment, and each school charges its own saved payment method. Switching one on or off leaves the others alone.

If an autopay charge ever fails, paying an invoice by hand always works. Still stuck? Email [email protected].
