Send a pickup pass

Authorize someone to pick up your child with a single-use, time-bounded pass you can share by link or QR code.

A pickup pass lets you authorize one person to pick up your child for a set window of time. You issue it from the ClearDay app, share it with whoever is doing the pickup, and your school's staff scan it at the door to check your child out. Each pass works once, only inside the window you choose, and you can cancel it any time before it's used.

This is a quick, one-off authorization. If you want someone added to your child's standing pickup list, ask your director: only the school can authorize a recurring pickup contact (see Talk to a director).

Who can send one

You can issue a pickup pass for any child on your account. You do it from the app on your phone.

Issue a pass

  1. Open your child's profile in the app and choose to create a pickup pass.
  2. Enter the name of the person picking up. This is the only required detail.
  3. Add their phone number if you have it. It's optional.
  4. Add a photo of the person if you'd like. It's optional, but it helps staff confirm who they're handing your child to.
  5. Set the window the pass is good for: a start time and an end time. The pass only works between those two times, and the end time has to be in the future.
  6. Create the pass.

ClearDay generates the pass and a shareable link and QR code so you can pass it along.

Share the pass

Once the pass exists, you share it with the person picking up:

  • The pass opens directly in the ClearDay app if they have it installed.
  • If they don't, a web link works in any browser: handy for texting to a grandparent or a babysitter.
  • They can also be scanned in at the door from the QR code.

When the person opens the pass, they see your child's first and last name, your first name, the name on the pass, and the time window: enough to confirm it's the right pass. The link is the credential, so only share it with the person doing the pickup.

How staff check your child out

At your school, a teacher or director scans the pass on the iPad at pickup. The scan checks your child out for the day. A pass is single-use: once it's been scanned to release your child, it can't be used again. It also won't work before the start time or after the end time you set.

Cancel a pass

Plans change. You can revoke a pass any time before it's used, straight from the app. Once you cancel it, the pass stops working immediately and staff can no longer scan it to release your child.
