How your data is handled: connector, phone and photos

Most of Sunny runs on Clear Day's own servers. This page covers the three places your data can go somewhere else, and the rules that apply there.

The Claude connector

Some schools add Clear Day as a connector inside their own Claude account. That sends answers into an account whose data handling we do not control and cannot check, so the connector offers a narrower set of skills than Sunny has inside Clear Day.

Any skill whose output can carry health or medical detail, injury or illness reports, or individually identifiable detail about a child is refused on the connector. The product will not start if one is added by mistake. That covers a child's profile, a day's daily report, incident summaries and detail, immunization compliance, the roster listing, family memory notes and anything read off a scanned form.

It is not a ban on the data itself. Those skills stay available inside Clear Day. The line is this: individual-level health or incident data never goes through the connector, and a total that cannot be traced back to a child is fine. A per-classroom immunization breakdown in a room of eight can identify a child, so it stays off.

Features that run on your phone

On recent iPhones with Apple Intelligence, the first pass of five features runs entirely on the phone:

• Dictating a classroom event. See dictate classroom events.
• The recap in voice intake.
• Quick fill, which turns a typed note into the fields of an incident report.
• Quick fill for a planned-absence form.
• Caption suggestions when you log a photo for a room.

If the phone cannot run it, the request goes to our server instead, except caption suggestions, which simply do not appear.

Voice recordings stay on the phone. The app turns speech into words on the device and sends only the words. There is no recording for us to hold.

Images

If you attach a photo to an ask, or photograph a form, that image goes to the model. That is the point of both. See scan a paper form.

Photo captions work differently. When a teacher logs a photo for a room, the app can suggest three captions. They are written from the selected children's first names and the teacher's own note, never from the picture. On a phone that can run it, that happens on the device, so neither the photo nor the note leaves it.
