Ask @sunny in staff messaging

You do not have to leave a conversation to ask about the school. Type @sunny in a staff channel or staff direct message, and Sunny answers in the thread. It shows in the mention picker with an AI tag, and its replies wear that tag too. @help and @ai work as well.

Staff only

@sunny works in staff channels and staff direct messages. It does not work in any thread a family can see. If a parent is in the thread, the mention is refused before Sunny reads a word of it. If anyone in the thread has no active role at your school, the room cannot be shown to be staff-only, so it is declined the same way.

What it answers

A short, fixed list of reads: attendance today, the roster for a room, staffing, billing health, the enrollment pipeline and funnel, a child's profile, a day's daily report, whether an immunization form is outstanding (once medical records are turned on for your school) and a name lookup. Answers can include a small result card, such as a list or a count.

It cannot change anything from a channel. No record is written and no message goes out.

The room sets the limit

The answer is limited by the least-privileged person in the channel, not by who asked. A director asking in a room with teachers in it gets a teacher-level answer, because everyone in the room will read it. If you ask for something the room cannot see, @sunny says so.

Anything consequential becomes a draft

Ask for a birthday note to six families and Sunny replies: "Drafted — it's waiting in your tray. Nothing sends until someone approves it." There is no approve button in the thread. The draft goes to the tray of whoever asked. See drafts wait for your team.

Handing work off this way is for directors and admins, in an admin-level room. In a room with teachers, @sunny answers questions, and you start the drafting from your own tray.

Keeping a conversation going

After you mention @sunny, the conversation stays open for 10 minutes, so you can follow up without typing @ each time. A Done with Sunny pill ends it sooner, and so does typing something like "@sunny done". When the window closes, Sunny shows "Sunny stepped out".

Quoting an earlier message that contained a mention does not call Sunny again. Each school gets 50 mentions a day, so two people cannot set off a loop.
