Draft a reply with Clear Day (school admin)
Have Clear Day write a first-pass reply to an inbound family message, edit it, send it from your own client, and save it to the family timeline.
When a family writes in, Clear Day can take the first pass at your reply. It reads the inbound message and the family's recent history, then hands you a draft to read over, change, and send. The blank page is the hard part, and this skips it. The wording that goes out is still yours.
You need a director or admin role on the active school to use this.
A draft is text, not a delivery. Clear Day does not send the email or SMS for you. You send it from your own mail or SMS client, then come back and log it on the family timeline so the record is complete.
Start a draft
On the web, an inbound family message in a thread shows a Draft reply button with a sparkle icon. Tap it and the button spins while Clear Day works. When the draft lands, you'll see Draft ready — review and edit before sending, and the text drops into your compose box ready to edit.
On mobile, open the inbound message on the family timeline and choose Draft reply. That opens the Reply draft screen, which shows Drafting… while it loads and then puts the editable draft in front of you.
What the draft pulls from
The draft starts from the inbound message plus relevant pieces of the family's recent activity. On the mobile Reply draft screen, a What this used section lists the exact snippets Clear Day leaned on, so nothing about the draft is a mystery. Read it over before it goes out
Always read the draft first. On the mobile Reply draft screen you can adjust:
- Channel: Email, In-app, or SMS. The subject field shows up only for Email.
- Intent: Reply to answer the inbound message, or General.
- Subject (optional): Email only. Leave it blank and it defaults to Re: plus the original subject line.
- Body: edit it however you like, up to 20,000 characters. A live count sits under the field.
If you change the channel or intent, tap Regenerate to draft again with the new settings. Flipping a chip on its own won't re-run the draft. That's on purpose, so a few taps don't eat your rate limit.
Set a follow-up reminder
When Clear Day thinks the thread deserves a check-back, a Follow-up reminder appears, already checked: Remind me to follow up in N days. Leave it on and logging the touch creates a follow-up task on the family. Uncheck it to skip the reminder.
Send it, then log it
Clear Day drafts; you deliver. So the order is:
- Edit the draft until it sounds like you.
- On mobile, tap Share to hand the subject and body to your email or SMS client. On the web, copy the text out of the compose box. Send it from there.
- Back on the Reply draft screen, tap Save to family timeline. That records the reply on the family timeline and creates the follow-up task if you left the reminder on. The button reads Logged and the screen closes.
Rate limits and retries
If you regenerate many times in quick succession, Clear Day briefly pauses to catch up: the button goes quiet with a countdown (Wait Ns on the web, Retry in Ns or Regenerate in Ns on mobile). Wait for it to clear and try again. If a draft fails for some other reason, you'll get a short error and a Retry button.
