Format messages and add media

The same tools work in a channel post, a thread reply and a direct message. A message can be up to 2,000 characters.

Format text

Clear Day uses plain Markdown. Type the shortcuts, or use the formatting buttons.

On the web, a toolbar under the message box has these buttons. Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I work for bold and italic. Return sends the message, and Shift+Return starts a new line. A counter appears as you near the limit.

In the app, tap Aa under the message box to open the format row. In a list, Return starts the next item, and Return on an empty item ends the list.

Mention someone

Type @ and a name, then pick the person from the list. They get a notification.

Emoji and GIFs

On the web, use the smiley button for emoji and the GIF button for GIFs. In the app, the smiley opens the emoji grid, and the image button next to it opens GIF search. GIF search runs on Giphy.

Attach a file

Choose the paperclip. Each file can be up to 10 MB. Each one shows as a thumbnail you can remove before you send.

• On the web, you can attach several JPEG, PNG and PDF files to one message.
• In the app, the paperclip offers Take Photo or Choose from Library. The app also accepts HEIC and WebP images, which the web does not.

Link previews

Paste a web address and Clear Day adds a preview card with the page's title, description and image. Everyone who reads the message sees the same card.
