Translate a message

Read a parent's message in English, and know when your reply will be translated for them.
If a family writes in another language, you can read their message in English without leaving the thread.
Translate a parent's message
Under a message from a parent, choose Translate. The English version appears under the original, in italics. Choose Hide translation to fold it away. In the app, the control reads Translate, then Translating….
Translation is for messages from parents. It only translates into English, and it only appears on messages from a family, not on messages from your staff.
If a translation cannot be made, you will see "Translation unavailable right now." If you translate many messages in a minute, the button counts down before it lets you try again.
When the family reads another language
If everyone in a conversation reads the same non-English language, the line above the message box says Translates both ways. A family can translate your messages into their preferred language with the same Translate button on their side, and Clear Day keeps the original alongside it.
In a channel with families who read different languages, that line does not appear, because there is no single language to name.
Translations are machine-made. For anything important, such as a health or safety message, read the original too or ask a colleague who speaks the language.
