Give families an absence line
Available on every plan
Rolling out: if you don't see this yet, it isn't on for your school yet.
Share a link families use to say a child is out, and see today's reports on your home page or in the app.
The absence line is a heads-up channel. A family opens a link, says which child is out, and staff see it the same day. It is not attendance. There's no account, and nobody is messaged from it.
If you track attendance on Run or Grow, see Manage roster and absences. The absence line is what families use to tell you ahead of time.
Share the link (school admins, web)
Open Daily Kit, then Absence line. There are two kinds of link.
One link for the whole school. The Share your absence line card shows it. Copy link copies it, and Print QR poster makes a sheet headed "Report an absence" in Letter or A4. Get a new link replaces it, and the old link and printed QR codes stop working. Families' private links are untouched.
A private link for each family. Under Private family links, search for a family and choose Copy link. That family's link lists only their children, so they don't type a name. Paste it wherever you already reach them. A link can be copied only once. If a family lost theirs, choose Replace link, then Replace link — the old one stops working. Private links need enrolled families on your roster.
Only school admins can share these links.
What families do
They open the link and choose Today or Tomorrow. They add each child's name and an optional reason, and their own name and optional phone or email. Then they choose Let the school know. They see "Seen by the school" next to a child once you acknowledge the report.
See today's reports
On the web, reports appear on your home page in a card called Absence line — today, grouped by room. The card doesn't show when there are no reports. A teacher sees reports for their own rooms. Choose Acknowledge on a report, and the family sees it was seen. A line at the bottom says "This list clears tonight — it's never attendance."
In the app (Run and Grow), open Tools, then Absence line. The row says something like "2 out today · 1 not seen yet". Choose Acknowledge next to a child. It then reads "Seen" with the time. With no reports, you'll see "Nobody's reported out today".
If a report doesn't match a name on your roster, it's flagged "Not on the roster", and the count says "didn't match a name on the roster — check with the family."
If you can't see it
If you can't see the absence line, your school hasn't turned it on. In the app you'll see "The absence line is off".
