Milestone checklists

Available on Run and Grow

Rolling out: if you don't see this yet, it isn't on for your school yet.

Tick off what you've seen a child do, add a short note, and print the page for a conference. One snapshot per child, no scores.

A milestone checklist is a list of things a teacher can see a child do on an ordinary day. You tick what you've noticed and add a note if you like. It's for your eyes and for a family conference. It doesn't score a child or compare them to anyone.

Teachers and school admins use it in the app. A teacher sees the children in their own rooms. A director sees every room. It is under Tools, in This week, as Milestones. The row says how many children haven't been ticked this term, such as "5 children not ticked this term".

If your school doesn't see Milestones in Tools, it isn't on for your school yet.

If you're on Grow and want progress tracked over time against a goal framework, see Build milestone portfolios. A checklist is the quick version.

Open a child's checklist

  1. Choose Milestones in Tools.
  2. If you have more than one room, Pick a room. The list shows each child with "Ticked" and when, or "Not ticked this term".
  3. Choose a child.

Tick and note

The child's age shows at the top, with a control for the age group: Infants, Ones, Twos, Threes and Fours / Pre-K. It opens on the group that fits the child's age, or the one you saved last. Switch groups if another fits better.

  • Tap a line to tick it. Ticked lines turn solid, and unticked ones are dashed.
  • Tap the pencil to add a note to a line. The prompt says "What did you notice?" A note can run to 280 characters.

Every line is written as something you can see, such as "Reaches for a toy and holds on to it". There are no scores, percentiles or "behind" labels anywhere.

Save and print

Choose Save snapshot. It says Saved when it's done. A child has one snapshot, always the latest, and saving again replaces it. The footer says so on every checklist.

Choose Print to open your phone's share sheet with a plain-text page. It lists what you noticed under "Noticed" and the rest under "Not ticked yet". Use the share sheet's own Print action, or send it to yourself. The page has no count or score.

If you leave with unsaved ticks, you'll be asked "Discard changes?" If another teacher saved the same child while you worked, you'll see "Someone else just saved this child's checklist". Choose Reload to see what they saved, then tick again. Nothing is merged.

How "this term" works

Clear Day counts two terms a year. One starts on January 1 and the other on August 1. A child counts as ticked for the term if their snapshot was saved since the term started.
