Your Clear Day plan

Managing your subscription and billing

Update your card, read invoices, and cancel in the Stripe Customer Portal, and change your Clear Day plan in place from the plan picker.

This is your school's bill to Clear Day for the software, separate from the tuition families pay you. (For the full picture of the two billing axes, see What's in each plan.) Your card and invoices live in Stripe's Customer Portal, so your payment details never touch Clear Day. Changing plans is a separate, in-place action in the plan picker (covered below).

You reach the portal from Settings > Subscription > Manage subscription: Clear Day hands you off to the Stripe Customer Portal. On the web, that row's subtext spells out what's behind it: Change your plan, update payment, or view invoices.

Only directors and school admins see the Subscription section in Settings. If you're still in your 14-day trial and haven't picked a plan yet, there's no billing account to manage, so tapping it sends you to the plan picker instead.

On the app, the portal opens in your phone's browser rather than inside the app. The link already knows who you are, so there's nothing to sign in to: make your change, then return to Clear Day.

What you can change in the portal

The Stripe portal is where everything about your bill lives:

  • Update your card. Add a new card or replace the one on file.
  • Read your invoices. Every charge, with a receipt you can download or print.
  • Cancel your subscription. Self-serve, no phone call and no email to us.

Note: moving between Run and Grow isn't done in the Stripe portal. That's an in-place change you make in the plan picker (see below).

Cancelling

Cancel from the same portal, under Manage subscription. It's self-serve. There's nothing to ask us for.

Cancelling schedules the end of your subscription rather than cutting you off mid-cycle: you keep Clear Day through the period you've already paid for, and we email every school admin a confirmation with the date it ends. Change your mind before then and the portal lets you resume the plan, which sends a second email letting your admins know it's staying.

Clear Day may ask why you're leaving before it hands you to the portal. That's an optional note, not a step. Skipping it doesn't hold up the cancellation.

Cancelling your Clear Day subscription is separate from closing your school's account. If you want your school's data removed as well, see Delete your account or email [email protected].

Changing your plan

To move between Run and Grow, you don't open the portal. If you already have a live subscription, you change plans in place from the plan picker: tap See plans from the locked Grow tab to reach the Unlock Grow page, where the button reads Switch to Grow (or Switch to Run going the other way). There's no Stripe redirect and no card re-entry.

The new plan takes effect right away, settled by proration so you only ever pay for what you used.

  • Upgrading mid-cycle (Run to Grow) charges you the difference for the rest of the current period. You're not double-charged for the time you'd already paid.
  • Downgrading credits the unused part of what you paid and applies it to your next bill.

Your plan is billed per classroom. Add or close a classroom and your next bill reflects the new count.

After the proration is settled, your regular charge picks up again at the next renewal at the new rate. For the full walk-through, see choosing or changing your plan.

Updating your card

Choose Update payment method in the portal, then enter the new card. Stripe handles the card details start to finish. Clear Day only learns that a working card is on file, never the number itself.

This is also where you go if a renewal didn't clear.

If a payment fails

A failed renewal doesn't lock you out. You keep using Clear Day while Stripe quietly retries the charge over the following days.

During that window you'll see a calm banner asking you to update your card. It's a nudge, not a wall. Tap it to open the portal and fix the card, and the next retry clears the balance.

If every retry fails and the card is never fixed, the subscription lapses and Clear Day asks you to choose a plan again to get back in. So when you see the banner, the kind thing to future-you is to handle it that day. For the step-by-step, see A payment didn't go through.

Invoices and billing history

Your full billing history lives in the Stripe portal: every subscription charge, paid or pending, with downloadable invoices and receipts. It's the record to reach for at tax time or when a bookkeeper asks. Open it the same way as above, through Manage subscription.
