Connector documentation

Connect Clear Day to ChatGPT

Clear Day has two connectors you can add to ChatGPT. They let you ask ChatGPT about your school, or about tours at a school, and have it answer from Clear Day.

Not the family app

Both connectors are separate from the Clear Day family app that parents use at a school to see updates and pay tuition (see Clear Day for families). “Clear Day for Parents” below means the connector, and you do not need the family app, or a Clear Day account, to use it.

Which connector

Clear Day for Directors

For school directors. Every call needs you to sign in with a Clear Day account. Most tools need a school admin (director) account; a few read-only ones also work for teachers. Which tools you can use depends on your school’s plan and your role.

Clear Day for Parents

For adults (parents and guardians) looking for child care. No sign-in, and public information only. It is the connector, not the family app.

About Clear Day for Parents

Add it to ChatGPT

You add each connector once, by its address. ChatGPT’s menus for custom connectors and apps change often and depend on your plan and workspace settings, so if a label differs from the steps below, follow OpenAI’s current instructions for adding a custom connector by URL. In a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an administrator may need to allow it first.

  1. Open ChatGPT’s Settings and find the connectors or apps section.
  2. Choose the option to add a custom connector, or to create one, by its address.
  3. Paste the connector address from the section above and name it. Use Clear Day for Directors or Clear Day for Parents.
  4. For Clear Day for Directors, follow the sign-in prompt and use your Clear Day school admin (director) account. Clear Day for Parents has no sign-in.
  5. In a new chat, turn the connector on for that conversation and ask.

Example prompts

Clear Day for Directors

  • “Which inquiries are waiting on me, and what tour times are open this week?”
  • “Draft a reply to the family that asked about toddler spots.”
  • “Is every room covered by ratio tomorrow?”
  • “Help me finish my school website. What is blocking it?”
  • “Plan an open house for the second Saturday of next month.”

Clear Day for Parents

Clear Day for Parents is for adults (parents and guardians) looking for child care. It is not for children.

  • “Find licensed preschools near 78701 that are open by 7 am and accept subsidy.”
  • “Find licensed daycares in Austin, TX for a toddler and compare three of them.”
  • “Find licensed child care near 78701, then show open tour times at any that use Clear Day.”
  • “What should I ask on a daycare tour for a toddler?”
  • “My child starts child care in two weeks. Can you make me a plan?”

Open plugins bundle the connector with guided skills such as these: Answer a new inquiry, Weekly enrollment review, Book a tour, Plan an open house, and tour questions and starting child care. They are published at github.com/cleardayapp/clear-day-plugins.

Your assistant picks a tool when you ask. Which Clear Day for Directors tools you see depends on the school’s plan and your role at that school. Every tool needs a school admin (director) account except the ones marked “Teachers too”.

Clear Day for Parents

For adults (parents and guardians) looking for child care.

ToolWhat it does
find_licensed_child_careSearches licensed child care near a city and state or a 5-digit ZIP, optionally by age group (infant, toddler, pre-K or school age), opening and closing hours, subsidy and meals. Up to 10 results a page and 3 pages; with a ZIP, nearest first within a radius.
get_child_care_providerOne provider's state licensing details: license status, ages, hours, capacity, quality rating and the latest inspection the state reports, with links to the state record.
compare_child_care_providersCompares 2 to 5 providers side by side on the same licensing details.
get_child_care_tour_timesOpen tour times at a provider that uses Clear Day, for a provider found with find_licensed_child_care.
request_child_care_tourWhen available: asks for a tour at a school that uses Clear Day.Changes something: Sends your first name, last name and email to Clear Day, which emails you a link to confirm. Nothing reaches the school until you confirm. It never asks for anything about your child.

What the provider search returns (on both connectors):

  • It lists only providers the state shows as licensed and operating, from public state licensing data, as of the date the state last reported.
  • Each result has the provider's state license details and, where the state publishes one, a link to its state licensing record.
  • Details for one provider, or a comparison, add the latest inspection the state reports and a link to the inspection report where there is one. Not every state reports inspections.
  • It shows no prices.
  • Some providers' street addresses and distances are withheld, including home-based ones; use the state record.

What is and is not sent

Your questions and the tool results are shared with Clear Day only to answer your request. The connectors are narrow on purpose: they do not send or return any of the following.

  • Children's names, birth dates or exact ages
  • Health or incident details
  • Photos
  • Anything a family or staff member wrote

Clear Day for Directors does send a parent’s first name and the age group they asked about (an infant, toddler, preschool or pre-K band) with an inquiry, along with its stage, tour times and school-level totals. Clear Day for Parents returns public information and tour times only.

If a parent asks for a tour through Clear Day for Parents, request_child_care_tour sends the parent’s first name, last name and email to Clear Day, which emails the parent a confirmation link. Nothing reaches the provider until the parent confirms.

Tools that change something are marked in the tables above. The Clear Day skills ask for your yes before they run one. Without the skills, ask your assistant to confirm before it books a tour or changes a record. Website changes are saved as drafts that only you can publish, and booking or requesting a tour emails the parent.

Read the privacy policy sections on the connectors, Clear Day for Directors, Clear Day for Parents and tour requests. What ChatGPT does with a conversation is covered by ChatGPT’s own settings and policies. If your account is not one your school or company manages, check them before you connect.

Disconnect and revoke access

Clear Day for Parents has no sign-in, so removing it in ChatGPT’s settings is all there is to do. For Clear Day for Directors, to end access from Clear Day’s side, open Settings → Connected assistants in Clear Day on the web and remove ChatGPTthere. Removing the connector in ChatGPT’s settings removes it from ChatGPT, but may not end the connection on Clear Day’s side. You can add it again later.

Changing your Clear Day password also ends access, which is the quickest step if you lose a device. To have something removed, such as a tour request, email [email protected]; for anything else, [email protected].
