Connect Stripe to accept tuition

This is for family tuition, not for paying Clear Day. Your own Clear Day plan is covered in Plans and pricing.

Before families can pay you, you connect your school to Stripe. Families then pay deposits and tuition straight into your school's own Stripe account. Clear Day never holds your money. Have these ready, because Stripe's form asks for them: your business details with an EIN or SSN, a photo ID for the owner, and a bank account for payouts.

Connect

On the web, open Billing. Until you're connected, a panel at the top reads Connect Stripe to accept tuition. Choose Start setup.

In the app, open the Billing tab and choose Start setup on the same panel, or open Payments under School and choose Start Stripe onboarding.

Stripe's own form opens. Fill it in there. When you return to Clear Day, choose Refresh status.

Check your status

You're ready when the status reads Stripe connected, with a check next to both Charges and Payouts. The exact words differ: the web says "ready to accept deposits" and the app says "you can accept tuition payments".

If you stop partway, the status says you still need to finish onboarding, and the button reads Continue onboarding on the web. Pick up where you left off, then choose Refresh status.

Once you're connected, the button reads Update Stripe account. Use it to change your bank account or business details.

What this unlocks

Connecting lets families pay enrollment deposits on an offer, and pay tuition on the billing plans you create. Next, build your billing plans.

If the status won't update

Choose Refresh status first. If Charges or Payouts still shows a dash after you've finished, Stripe is usually still verifying a document. Reopen onboarding with the main button to see what's outstanding.

Fees

Stripe charges its own processing fee on each payment, and it comes out of what Stripe pays into your account. Clear Day doesn't add a markup or a separate fee on top, and there's no fee schedule to set up in Clear Day. Stripe also handles identity checks, 1099s, chargebacks and your payout schedule. Your relationship for those is with Stripe directly.
