Use the custom report builder

When the built-in reports don't cover what you need, build your own. You pick a data source, the columns, and any filters, preview the result, then export it or save it to run again. Only school admins can use the builder.

You build on the web. The app runs saved reports only: Saved reports in the app lists what you saved, and you can open and run each one.

Open the builder

On the web, go to Reports and select the Custom report builder card. You'll see four cards on the left, Preview on the right, and your Saved reports below it.

Build a report

1. Source. Choose a data source from Choose a data source. Everything below is scoped to it, so changing the source clears your other choices.
2. Fields. Check each field you want as a column. You need at least one.
3. Filters. Select Add filter, then pick a field, an operator and a value. The operators depend on the field: text offers is, is not and contains; numbers and dates add greater than, at least, less than and at most; lists offer is, is not and is any of (separate values with commas). Filters missing a field, operator or value are ignored.
4. Date grouping. If the source has a date field, group by Day, Week or Month, or leave it on None.

Select Preview to run it. The preview is capped; when it is, a warning says "This preview is capped at [N] rows. Export to CSV to get the full results."

Ask in plain English

On the Grow plan, the Ask in plain English card at the top drafts the source, fields and filters from a question, such as "Which families are past due on invoices this month?" Type it, select Ask, then review and adjust the draft before you run it. On Run, the button is disabled with the note "Available on the Grow plan."

In the app, the same box sits on Saved reports and opens the result as a report titled "From your question."

Export, save and re-run

• Export CSV downloads every row, even when the preview was capped.
• To keep a report, type a Report name and select Save report.
• In Saved reports, Run reloads it into the builder, CSV downloads the full results, and the trash icon deletes it after you confirm.
