Set up kiosk mode and clock-in PINs

Kiosk mode turns a tablet by the door into a shared time clock. Each staff member types their own PIN to clock in or out, so nobody needs to sign in on the device. Directors and admins set it up.

Kiosk mode is in the app. You can set PINs on the web or in the app.

Give each person a PIN

A PIN is 4 to 8 digits. Clear Day stores it securely and never shows it back, so you can replace a PIN but not read it.

• Web: open People, go to Staff, and select the credentials icon on the person's row. At the top of the drawer, under Kiosk clock PIN, type a PIN and select Set PIN. It says No PIN until you do, and PIN set after. To change it, type a new one and select Replace. To remove it, select Clear PIN and confirm. You see "Kiosk PIN set" or "Kiosk PIN cleared".
• App: open the School tab, then People, and tap the fingerprint icon on the person's row. The sheet is titled Kiosk PIN with their name. Enter the PIN and tap Set PIN or Replace PIN. Remove PIN asks you to confirm.

Give each person a different PIN. Clear Day doesn't check that PINs are unique at your school, and if two people share one, a punch goes to whichever of them it finds first.

Turn on the kiosk

1. On the tablet, sign in as an admin, open the School tab and tap Kiosk mode. The tile says "Shared device — staff clock in and out with a PIN".
2. Leave it open by the door.

What staff do

The screen says "Enter your PIN to clock in or out". A staff member taps their PIN on the keypad and taps Clock in / out. The screen confirms with their name and "Clocked in at 8:03 AM" or "Clocked out at…", then resets for the next person after a few seconds. Tapping a key right away skips the wait.

A punch toggles the person's shift: their first PIN entry clocks them in, and the next clocks them out.

If a PIN isn't recognized, the screen says "PIN not recognized." and clears. It never says whether a PIN exists. After 10 misses in a row within 5 minutes, the kiosk pauses for a minute, then works again.

Kiosk mode doesn't change who is signed in on the tablet. Punches are matched to staff by PIN alone.
